Public presentation of your thesis project

A public presentation of your thesis project (aka TAC meeting) in the presence of your committee members (CMs) must be held within 6-12 months. If you are a student in one of the PhD tracks (DK), please contact your DK manager for program-specific information.
Make sure your CMs can attend the presentation.

  • Make sure to have your first TAC with the 6-12 months after starting
  • For the first TAC, write a proposal (= expose) and send this to your committee at least one week in advance
  • for the other TACs, write a report about the achievements of the last period and send this to your committee at least one week in advance

What is the thesis committee?

The thesis comittee consists of your supervisor plus 2 or 3 scientists of your research area. One of them should be member of the University of Vienna, and one of them must be external (i.e. from a different research institution).

Right after the presentation, a non-public meeting between the candidate and the CMs will take place to discuss the work plan and scientific and organizational issues. A protocol (signed by all CMs) describing the research project (exposé and/or progress report) including suggestions for improvements, criticism, etc. is to be handed in to Gerlinde Aschauer (Max Perutz Labs, room 5.119).

After your successful presentation, the Doctoral Thesis Agreement will be signed by the DSPL. One copy will be returned to you by mail. In the following years, Annual Progress Reports will be required.
